Experience
My greatest strength likely lies in the fact that I had to LEARN to become a good test taker. My initial attempts at all standardized tests were embarrassing. I had to buckle down and study immensely, all prior to being diagnosed with ADD. I mention this because I learned creative study strategies to facilitate learning and retention in spite of my struggle to focus. Likewise, my high school did not prepare me for college work - especially college writing and study skills - so my first year was a crash course. Since I learned all of these skills as an adult, I understand how to break them down, teach them, and assess learning and retention. I have taught sociology, human development, and social science writing to college students and always emphasized analytical reading and writing, rather than rote memorization. I've written exams and informal assessment questions for several sociology and psychology textbooks and received accolades from authors and publishers for my work.
